Full of ideas, tips and tricks, see this guide is your starting point to hosting a 90s theme extravaganza that'll have your guests dancing the Macarena all night long.

So let’s jump in!

Setting the Scene: Throwback Decor

First things first, let's talk decor. We're talking neon signs, inflatable furniture, and geometric shapes – basically, anything that screams '90s chic. And hey, why not sprinkle in some classic memorabilia like cassette tapes and pogs for an extra dose of nostalgia? Pro tip: hit up thrift stores for some budget-friendly finds or get crafty with some DIY projects. Did you know you could make your own lava lamp using just water, oil, and food colouring? Ok, so you have to keep adding salt or effervescent to keep the effect going but I still thought it was pretty cool. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • A clear plastic or glass bottle (such as a soda bottle)

  • Water

  • Vegetable oil

  • Food coloring

  • Effervescent tablets (such as Alka-Seltzer)

Instructions:

  1. Fill the bottle about three-quarters full with vegetable oil.

  2. In a separate container, mix water with a few drops of food colouring. Stir to combine.

  3. Pour the coloured water into the bottle with the vegetable oil. Leave some space at the top.

  4. Break an effervescent tablet into small pieces and drop them into the bottle.

  5. The tablet will react with the water, creating bubbles that rise through the oil, resembling lava lamp blobs.

  6. If the bubbles stop rising, simply add another piece of the effervescent tablet to keep the lava lamp effect going.
